You have been studying Spanish for some time and are comfortable carrying on conversations on a large variety of topics. You are always looking for additional, fun ways to practice and as you love watching Netflix series in Spanish, come and join us once a week to discuss a specific series!

Learning Spanish with Spanish-language TV series is a great way to retain vocabulary and grammar, get used to various accents and forms of speech, as well as learn about the cultures and lifestyles of various Spanish-speaking countries.
Watching a series and discussing it weekly helps you learn and retain authentic Spanish without having to physically travel and spend considerable amounts of time in various parts of the Spanish speaking world!

Each week, you will be assigned an episode to watch at home and asked to prepare to discuss it in class. The series we have chosen will be available on Netflix which has the advantage of having Spanish-language subtitles (among others) to assist you when in doubt. We will recommend techniques to help you improve your Spanish, grow your vocabulary, and perfect your accent as you prepare your “homework”.

This session’s series will be Los pacientes del doctor García: una serie dramática de Televisión Española de 2023 que se adaptó a la novela homónima de Almudena Grandes de 2017.

Tras la victoria de Franco, el doctor Guillermo García Medina vive en Madrid bajo una identidad falsa. La documentación que lo libró del paredón fue un regalo de su mejor amigo, Manuel Arroyo, un diplomático republicano al que salvó la vida en 1937.

Aunque Guillermo cree que nunca volverá a verlo, Manuel vuelve del exilio y recaba su ayuda para una misión secreta y peligrosa: pretende infiltrarse en una red de evasión de criminales de guerra prófugos que dirige desde Madrid una mujer alemana y española, nazi y falangista, llamada Clara Stauffer. Con ese fin, Manuel se hace pasar por Adrián Gallardo, un español que tuvo su momento de gloria como boxeador profesional. Ahora los aliados lo persiguen debido a su participación en matanzas cometidas por las SS.

Entretanto, el verdadero Adrián Gallardo malvive en Alemania ignorando que alguien pretende suplantar su identidad para huir a la Argentina de Perón. Su regreso a Madrid pone en peligro la operación y la vida de los infiltrados.
