Improve your Spanish through Manual para señoritas
Would you like to understand authentic Spanish more easily and feel more confident speaking it?
This conversation course is designed for Intermediate learners who want to move beyond textbook Spanish and develop the listening and speaking skills needed to communicate naturally. It can be taken in combination with a more traditional Intermediate class.
Each week, you’ll watch one episode of Netflix’s Manual para señoritas at home. In class, we’ll use the episode as the starting point for lively conversations, vocabulary building, and practical language work. Rather than analyzing every detail of the plot, we might focus on how the characters speak, express their opinions, negotiate, disagree, persuade, apologize, and build relationships.
Throughout the course, you will:
– strengthen your listening comprehension by becoming familiar with authentic spoken Spanish in a clear and engaging context;
– expand your vocabulary with useful everyday expressions and natural idiomatic language;
– gain confidence using more complex grammar—such as the subjunctive and the past tenses—as they appear naturally in conversation;
– improve your fluency through guided discussions, debates, and opinion-sharing activities;
– discover cultural aspects of Spain while comparing them with contemporary life and your own experiences;
– learn to recognize different levels of formality and the subtle ways Spanish speakers express politeness, disagreement, affection, or irony.
Because the same characters and settings return each week, you’ll encounter key vocabulary and expressions repeatedly, helping new language become familiar and easier to remember. As the story unfolds, you’ll also find yourself understanding more and more of the dialogue without relying on Spanish subtitles.
Whether we’re debating a character’s decisions, imagining alternative endings, or exploring the cultural traditions behind the story, every class will give you multiple opportunities to listen actively, express your ideas, react to others, and build greater confidence speaking Spanish.
