This course is designed for curious adult learners who wish to deepen their French while exploring aspects of contemporary French life.
Over the course of ten weeks, we will use carefully selected short videos as a gateway to authentic language and engaging conversations.
Before each class, you’ll watch a short video and complete a series of guided activities at home. Our weekly meetings will be devoted almost entirely to conversation: sharing impressions, exchanging ideas, asking questions, and building confidence in a warm, supportive atmosphere where communication takes precedence over perfection.
To reinforce your progress, the course will include concise reviews of essential grammar points, along with practice exercises to complete at home.
This is a conversation circle that combines authentic materials, thoughtful discussion, and the quiet satisfaction of seeing your French become more natural, expressive, and confident with each passing week. Only French will be used in class.
Who should participate?
This class is ideal if you can “get by” in French and are ready to become a more confident speaker. You should already know the basics of French grammar and be comfortable using the present, past and future tenses in simple situations.
You should be able to:
- understand the main idea of a short conversation on familiar topics;
- introduce yourself and talk about your daily life and past experiences;
- ask and answer simple questions;
- read short texts with the help of a dictionary when needed;
- participate in a conversation, even if you sometimes need to search or ask for words.
Please know that because we use authentic videos, you won’t understand every word, which is perfectly normal. The goal is to understand the main ideas, expand your vocabulary, and become more comfortable speaking French through guided discussion.
