You have been studying Italian for some time and are quite comfortable carrying on conversations on a large variety of topics but perhaps you are ready for something a bit more challenging to continue to improve your vocabulary and solidify your knowledge of Italian grammar – not to mention insight into Italian culture.
Reading a book has not yet been part of your toolbox as both the task itself – not understanding everything, having to look up too many words — seems a bit daunting and the actual selection of a book, a discouraging process! But if someone chooses the book for you and holds your hand throughout the process by allowing you to tackle it in small digestible bites that you get to discuss once a week… you may be in for a pleasant and highly rewarding experience that will contribute to boost your confidence!
If you are ready to move into the realm of unabridged literature, let the adventure begin!

You will be asked to read a certain number of pages every week at home and once a week, you will “videomeet” with your classmates and instructor for discussions, clarifications, explanations, etc. — in Italian of course!

«Questa storia inizia un mercoledì del decennio passato, sono le nove e quindici del mattino e Maria Cristina Palma sta facendo ginnastica.»

Maria Cristina Palma, moglie del presidente del Consiglio, da alcuni considerata la donna più bella del mondo, attico all’ultimo piano nel centro di Roma, sembra avere tutto ciò che si possa desiderare e fa sempre tutto quello che ci si aspetta da lei. O meglio, tutto ciò che il marito Domenico Mascagni, il suo team e il Bruco, social media manager misterioso che orchestra la comunicazione del premier, decidono al posto suo.

La vita di Maria Cristina è stata “un righello che al posto dei centimetri ha i defunti” ed è proprio una sera, durante una festa, che il passato torna a farle visita: ha il volto di Nicola Sarti, caro amico di suo fratello Alessio, morto durante un incidente subacqueo, e vecchia fiamma della sua gioventù. Sarà lui a inviarle, tra le foto della loro vacanza in barca, un filmino pornografico di cui sono entrambi protagonisti e che diventerà per lei un’ossessione, presagio di una catastrofe imminente.

È rimasto silente otto anni, Niccolò Ammaniti: premio Strega nel 2007, sceneggiatore, regista, torna in libreria con La vita intima, un romanzo che è valso la pena aspettare.
