Material: We will choose widely available movies via Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, etc. As you will be watching on your own, you will need to have access to some of these platforms.
Location: Taught online via Zoom. An invitation and explanations on how to join the meeting will be sent to registered students.

You have been studying Spanish for some time and are comfortable carrying on conversations on a large variety of topics. You are always looking for additional, fun ways to practice and as you love watching movies in foreign languages, come and join us once a week to discuss a specific Spanish-language movie!

Learning Spanish with Spanish-language originals is a great way to retain vocabulary and grammar, get used to various accents and forms of speech, as well as learn about the cultures and lifestyles of various Spanish-speaking countries.
Watching a movie often consists of witnessing casual conversational speech while being introduced to the specific cultural aspects of the country, the region, or even the city where the movie is filmed, and the characters evolve. You learn authentic Spanish and begin to distinguish regional variations of the language without having to physically travel and spend considerable amounts of time in various parts of the Spanish speaking world!

Each week, you will be assigned a movie to watch – what exhausting homework that is! –at home and asked to prepare to discuss it in class. The movies we choose will be widely available on common platforms (Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, etc.) to make it easy for everyone to access. We will recommend techniques to help you improve your Spanish, grow your vocabulary, and perfect your accent as you watch these movies.
