How long can we continue to meet outside? That is what we will find out!
Meeting outside this summer was wonderful! It had been a long year and bringing our French language community back together while remaining cautious and keeping everyone safe, was a welcomed opportunity. With Covid ramping up again in our state and our decision to not reopen the school in its physical location, we’ve decided to keep our Petit Déjeuner du vendredi outside for a little while longer and see how we fare… We are aware that with Maine’s two seasons (you know… the “4th of July and winter”) we are entering unpredictable times when it comes to precipitations and temperatures. Let’s have faith 🙂
By Thursday morning of each breakfast week, we will look outside our windows – best way to predict weather in Maine, keep an eye on the thermometer, potentially consult with the National Weather Service (this might be too scientific for Maine…), and decide if we can meet outside or need to reconvene on Zoom.
Whether in person or on Zoom, we will let you know of our decision by Thursday morning if and only if you have signed up to attend. Please ensure that you check your spam box as many emails unfortunately land in it.
Beginning through advanced speakers are welcome and you do not need to be enrolled in a class with us to participate. Those of you who have been coming with regularity know that an extra hour of conversational practice outside of class, during which any and all topics can surface, is a great way to improve your ability to understand spoken French and communicate when put on the spot.
Please keep in mind that this is not a structured “class” but rather a social gathering during which the only requirement is that you be willing to speak French only as we assist you when needed to keep the conversation flowing. (If you want to read about how we structure our “regular” gathering — regular meaning pre-pandemic — please visit the Petit Déjeuner du Vendredi page.)
For our outdoor gatherings, we will not provide food/coffee but encourage you to feel free to bring your own. After all… you might need to keep your hands warm!
We ask kindly that you respect the concerns of those who remain vulnerable to Covid due to unrelated health issues. We will assume that you have been fully vaccinated or will be wearing a mask, and we will social distance appropriately. It is the right thing to do with the variants circulating. Thank you!
We look forward to seeing you at breakfast very soon!
