This class is a continuation of our introduction to German Part 2 or a similar class. Perhaps you began your studies with us or perhaps you took classes somewhere else. We will make sure to bring you up to speed before continuing on to help you further your learning. This class, like all others, is taught entirely in German.

Pre-requisite:
At this point of their learning, students are already somewhat comfortable with the following aspects of communication and grammar:

-Introducing themselves and others as well as asking and answering questions about personal details such as where they live and where they are from, what they do for work, what their family is like, etc.
-Being familiar with the alphabet and the numbers from 0 to 1.000.000.
-Asking for and giving the prices of various items.
-Using a limited number of adjectives to describe objects in the house.
-Hearing and understanding short conversations on these topics.
-Describing things in terms of color, form and material
-Conducting a phone conversation and to write emails or text messages
-Talking about leisure activities
-Making suggestions and react to them
-Telling and recognize time
-Labeling times of day and days of the week
-Setting up appointments
-Present tense verb conjugation singular and plural
-Yes/no – and W- (information) questions
-Definite articles
-Personal pronouns (in the subject=nominative case)
-Possessive articles
-Negation with “nicht”.
-Indefinite articles
-Negative articles
-Singular and plural forms of nouns
-The accusative
-The modal verb können
-Separable-prefix verbs
-The temporal prepositions am and um
-Word order

In this course, they will learn:

-to name certain foods and dishes
-to talk about food preferences
-to talk about food habits and cultural practices
-to recognize announcements in trains and subways
-to identify different means of transportation
-to start and end a phone conversation appropriately
-to describe their daily routine
-to talk about everyday activities in the past
-to talk about festivities
-to talk about travels
-to name months and seasons

Grammar topics will include:

-the conjugation and use of mögen and “möchte”
-the temporal prepositions von…bis, ab and im
-perfect tense with haben
-perfect tense with sein
