In this level, you will review the basics of the language to ensure a strong foundation. Coming into this level you can understand most frequently used vocabulary related to areas of immediate personal relevance (e.g., basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment) and catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements. During this class you will reinforce the communication skills needed for uncomplicated and routine tasks requiring a straightforward and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. You will practice asking and responding to questions, giving commands, and you will begin to express your opinion on some common topics.

It is customary in this level have previously studied the present, future, passé composé and imparfait of the indicative mood, and to have touched upon the present tense of the subjunctive mood. You will review and continue to work on all these tenses through storytelling and other activities.

At this level we read and listen to authentic French sources including news articles, radio programs, songs, excerpts from literary texts, and interviews. We are developing a greater knowledge of the French speaking world, both in the present and historically.

If you need assistance to determine if this class is right for you, we would be happy to help.
