We invite you to participate
in this Provence experience in the beautiful and charming region
of Avignon. This immersion program is a perfect spring getaway for
those motivated by the prospect of a week in warm and sunny Provence
while participating in an active & enriching educational vacation.
The key to the success of this immersion program is for you to live
entirely "in French" no matter what your level of proficiency. A
variety of activities will help you gain or improve your command
of the French language and the experience will deepen your understanding
of the French culture.
Activities/Program
In brief: one day spent doing "classroom" activities – classroom
often being the beautiful village’s park, the nearby "Truffières"
and Garrigue-covered hills -- and alternate days devoted to traveling
and visiting villages, towns, and cities full of new and stimulating
flavors, colors, interests, and historical discoveries while carrying
out individual projects and interviews. The evenings will be spent
together relaxing by the fireplace while sharing our adventures
or, for the most studious "kind," away from the crowds studying.
Accommodations
In order to experience Provence from within, the site of our lodging
will be one of the many small villages perched on top of a steep
hill so typical to the Luberon area. Off the beaten path, yet only
a 30-minute ride away from the administrative capital of the Vaucluse
department, we will be staying in a picturesque bed & breakfast
named La Maison aux Volets Bleus in the charming village of Venasque.
We will enjoy our breakfasts and dinners in the dinning-room of
our hosts Martine and Jérôme Maret, talented cooks who will introduce
us to some of France’s best cuisine. Our lunches will be taken "on
the road" during our traveling days or in the house we will be renting
next to Martine and Jérôme’s residence. You will also be able to
indulge in one of the wonderful restaurants while spending the day
in the city of Avignon.
Transportation
Air & ground transportation to and from Venasque is your responsibility.
However, we will provide you with information on taxis and organize
a "collective pick-up" upon your arrival and when departing Venasque.
Our group expeditions throughout the week will be via bus and are
included in the course fee.
Golden
Provence
This immersion is for the mature adult interested in a challenging
cultural, social and linguistic experience with like-kind individuals
attracted by the intellectually stimulating activities of which
this program is composed. In a nurturing learning environment, we
will offer similar activities to our Spring immersion with only
slight changes in the content and organization. Designed for both
speakers of French and francophiles with a desire to embark upon
the experience of learning a foreign language, our language classes
will be held every day, evenings or mornings, to allow for an equal
amount of travel, lectures, visits, shopping sprees, and wine tastings.
Exercising will be a part of our daily activities through long early
morning walks for those who wish to do so.
