Local Programs >> French >> Conversation Class: Déjeuner au musée - Intermediate Advanced - Noon

5 Wednesdays, 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Book: no book necessary, distributed material
Location: Portland Museum of Art and its Caf
Instructor: Valérie Guillet
Price: $80 (early registration) $90 (after the open house of 9/11)
This fee does not include coffee or lunch items nor does it include the
$50 membership you will need to explore the museum if you are not yet a member. This membership is the lowest level membership offered by the museum that will give you access to the museum for 12 months for as many visits as you'd like. Worth every penny of your investment! Alternatively, you may pay $15 ($13 for senior citizens or $10 for students with valid ID) at each visit.
PS: if you simply want to join the conversation over lunch or coffee and not view the artwork on display, you do not need a membership to the museum. We will find a way to show you a picture of the pieces we will discuss. However, as you can imagine, nothing replaces the opportunity to experience the encounter with a masterpiece..
Dates: 11/07 - 12/12 (no class Thanksgiving week)

In this conversation class we will discuss specific paintings, sculptures, photographs using what the museum has on display at the time but all will be done in French regardless of the nationality of the artists in question. In the process, you will enrich your vocabulary as it relates to art -- and other topics -- and strengthen your conversational skills. Or in other words... you will enjoy the company of friends over lunch while discussing art in your favorite language!

Conversations will take place downstairs at PMA’s café after we’ve had a chance to examine one or two specific pieces each week. You will receive materials during the week to help you prepare for class and you will complete your preparation for the day’s conversation during the half hour preceding our lunch (you can, of course, spend more than a half hour contemplating the day’s masterpiece). Therefore on most weeks our discussions will start at 12:30.

This class is best suited for intermediate to advanced level students but we will be glad to help you determine if it is right for you. Please stop by during Open House or contact us.

This class will fill up quickly as it is not suited for a big group. Please do not delay to sign up!
